How long do you think I should wait? The pen that I'm just not getting much out of has my falb fee hens and a couple of others that were hatched in July. I'm just frustrated with months of just one egg a day, sometimes two, and no fertile ones.

Red rooster is going to go this weekend because I know I don't want to breed him.
I thought these were the ones hatched recently in that case keep the ones you really like one thing I noticed I didn’t start getting eggs till I started giving them oyster shell and threatened to start butchering them if they didn’t start laying and a week later I started getting eggs

I give them egg and oyster shell. It's available at all times to them. I'll try threatening to butcher them. :lau

i’m not sure i can handle hatching anymore from my own eggs unless I set up specific breeding groups. I was blaming possible nutrition deficiency but now thinking there’s more to the genetics....DH started pointing out more differences in my birds today and my thought is that there can be more “lethal” combinations than just those widely known. Out of my 8 eggs set this time, I had 2 hatch so far. 1 is in the brooder and the other had significant deformity (it looked like intestines and blood around the vent so we culled) 3rd had a large pip with no progress, so we helped zip until saw unabsorbed vein and now waiting to see. will candle remaining eggs tomorrow if no more look close. Last set, I had 45 hatch, but extremely low survival rate. Variety is pretty to look at, but too much is not a good thing. Time to re-evaluate!
I read this article recently. Maybe it could be helpful with quail as well as chickens: Line Breeding Using Spiral Breeding for Poultry
