➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

since it looks like lil red is going to be a loner chick from this hatch, (hes actually very docile and hasn't really cheeped or gotten mad about being alone).....I think I will try to handle him and see if I can create a "house quail" His brooder is right next to the button/finch cage so he can hear and possibly see the other birds so its not like hes completely alone:p

I just set these guys. They've been collected over a while, so they're a few days to a week and a half old, so we'll see what happens with them. :fl

I'm not going to complain, though because the person I got them from told me to keep my money and just gave me the eggs.

He has an amazing aviary with gouldian finches, clear red canaries, and button quail. The aviary wraps around his yard, goes into a sheltered room on the side of the house. The side area has a very natural looking stream that he made and that makes it so he can just hose down the floor of his aviary, and it all washes down the stream and into a lagoon where the ducks and fish eat it. I am in awe.:bow

what are your avg and low temps? do the birds go into the sheltered area on their own or does he put them in there when temps fall?? these are the issues i’m trying to work out in order to keep the buttons and finches, etc in the aviary

Our temperatures a pretty moderate. It rarely goes over 100 in the summer and while we get some freezing temperatures, it rarely goes below 25.
The birds go into the shelter on their own at night. If it's particularly cold, he'll close them in when they've all arrived.
