Step away for three minutes and I miss a bunch of fascinating linebreeding discussion!
Everyone has their own system, and very few have been proven to be more effective than any other. I myself follow a linebreeding system developed in 1929 by Iowa State for no other particular reason than I know it *can* work extremely well and it clicked with me when I was trying to develop my plan. If I don't get the results I like it will be back to the drawing board.
I didn't remember where back there someone asked about keeping bachelors alone - I have a bunch of bachelor pads set up while I source more hens, but in general I'd try to keep them at least in pairs (and sometimes that will work, sometimes the hen will get overbred or aggressive towards the male. Totally depends on the individuals) long term. I have a handful of hens that are not breeding quality but certainly worth keeping around for eggs that are keeping a few of my lonely bachelors company.
@Texas Kiki , your chicks are adorable and I do think you have some good variation in color there. I have had pharoahs turn out pretty radically differently shaded and you can sometimes tell as chicks.
@RUNuts , I demand an update! More chickies!
Also, I have a 10 week old pullet who has laid me ten beautiful eggs in seven days. Two eggs in a day three times in one week! She's a nice blue, too
