Mine that looked very similar to the one on the left now looks like this at 11 days

I just assumed the second one is a wild type. I have no idea about the first though. I contacted the seller on day 9 and she told me She couldn't tell yet.

If you figure it out, let me know lol

#1 is looking grau fee, #2 i’m leaning toward pansy.....but it can be more difficult when not familiar with source of the eggs as each variety can be appear similar or different based on the individual breeders lines and time breeding.

I “helped” the last 2 hatchers this morning and cleaned/sterilized the incubator. I’m currently trying to decide on color for EHAL and whether or not to set up the larger incubators vs using the j12 again......I’m starting to think that my hatch problems with malposition are from poor turning during first two weeks. I’m going to give the other deformed chicks time in grow-out and see what happens. I have to move the tux batch into aviary on Sunday after this “freeze” passes and then get shed brooder reset for these guys. I will keep the buttons in here until they can join the others.

Well everyone I have been AWOL for a while so an update I got the job/promotion we are now in the process of looking for a house now bad news we have to reduce the flock to 0 on all fronts quail chickens and pheasants till we find a place and get a good permanent structure built for them then I will need to rebuild my flock

Yeah, I've been confused about the colors because this is what she has posted on her website for the eggs I purchased:

"We offer a nice mixture of Coturnix Hatching Eggs from our selection of beautiful birds. There are: Autumn Ambers, Snowies, SSC’ s, (a beautiful blend of grays)Texas A&Ms(a real hardy strain), Jumbo Browns and Tibetan Tuxedos! "

and on her ebay listing (which is where I purchased from) it says:

"May include: Pansy, Tuxedo, Jumbo Brown, Texas A&M's, SSC's, Autumn Ambers, and many others"

I have been trying to understand quail color genetics. She says that she has each type separated in their own breeding cages which is why I went with her (wish I knew about Myshire before I purchased!). I have what I believe to be 4 Italians, 2 white, 1 that is a super light grey, 3 tuxedos that I can't really identify...the seller seems nice but when I sent her pictures of the questionable ones she said she can't tell because of poor pic quality...but it wasn't poor quality. I'm really questioning the types of quail the seller has now. She doesn't even list Italians...do you know which color combination creates the Italian color? I'm so confused!

My next batch of eggs will be coming from Myshire lol

It’s a two hour drive from where I currently live and the farthest plant that I’d have to maintain network on is 4.5 hours from current house

My 15 chicks on day 12. We've had some warmer weather here in FL the last few days so I have brought them outside for a few hours each day. The high is only supposed to be 72 degrees today. Do you think it's too chilly for them to be outside for a few hours or do they have enough adult feathers for it to be ok? I watched their behavior when it was high 70's to low 80's and they seemed fine. Not sure about today though.

Also, can anyone help with what type they are yet? I was reading about fatal gene combinations so now I'm a bit worried about mixing the wrong types. Thanks!

I would think 72 degrees would be fine for them. If you're concerned, watch them. They'll let you know if they're cold by bundling together in a corner.

So the named colors are squishy. I don’t feel bad getting confused by it all then.

There some good YouTube videos by myshire on colors.....Italians are basically golds. Most of the colors and collections only hatch 50-60% true so it’s entirely possible to get an odd chick or 2! When you hatch assortments of collections none of which hatch true, then it can sometimes take a few weeks to tell for sure on some of the chicks!
