āž” Quail Hatch Along🄚

Quail getting into position to break out of the egg
None of my quail have started to lay, yet! Pheasants on the other hand are on a roll!
Set 8 Elliot, 6 Peach Golden, 4 Yellow Golden, 5 Silver Golden, 6 Red Golden, 8 Amherst, 4 Zarudni, 3 Siamese Fireback, 3 White Crested Kailj :D checking fertility.
What do you do with the ā€œfertility checksā€ on all those beautiful birds? Sell, keep, eat? Aren’t they too pretty to eat any of them?

But they taste so good! Just kidding. They are too expensive to eat.

Of course I go ahead and raise them, usually the first week they start laying, they are not fertile...but some of them may be fertile, that's why I'm checking. If by some chance they are all fertile, I'll just have to figure what to do with them later. I don't have any problems selling these, only the common Chinese ring necked, ones.

ETA - If you do a quick search on eBay, you'll see hatching eggs are going for ridiculous prices for only as few as 6 eggs....normally these prices would apply to rarer birds, not the ones they are auctioning.

Hey @Kiki. I hatched some quail last week, not sure if you still wanted to add them to your 2020 list.

I ordered 100 jumbo wilds from Myshire. Received 119. Set 118. Had 90 at lockdown. Hatched out 84 quail. 4 were fully formed but didn't hatch, 2 early quitters. Here's an easier breakdown for your sheet.

Set on 3/4 Due 3/21

Set 118
Clears 28
Lockdown 90
Early quitters 2
Quit at hatch 4
Hatched 84

Here's a few of them.....
