➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I asked at our Runnings and the lady seemed surprised. Didn't know anything about any permits and said they were only for businesses and I didn't need to worry and yes they got quail in every spring. I had asked about Coturnix, but they had none--just fancy breeds. 🤷‍♀️
We don’t need a permit for Coturnix, but we need them for the fancy type breeds. Our stores don’t sell quail at all.

i’m not the only one who considers you the “resident expert” regarding pheasant although i may or may not be one of your biggest fans!!! I deem myself official president of the @007Sean fan club!! :love:love and the @ r2elk fan club, and the @ kiki fan club etc etc
I’m a fan of 007sean’s wild pheasant club. I still can see that little thing running beside his 4wheeler 😂

yes i ran out of steam before “crowning” myself president of the @BantyChooks and @casportpony fan clubs too (although i might have to fight some peeps for those titles) :lau and lets not forget @WVduckchick in that list too!!
While he is not someone who hangs around this Quail thread, @sourland is another well deserved fan club to belong to. As much as I point people to her excellent Incubation Humidity article I lapsed into forgetting @WVduckchick also. I think it is because she has downgraded from being a duck person into a pigeon person.

My tractor supply doesn’t sell anything but regular chickens, turkeys, and ducks. Nothing considered a game breed.

Same here.

Here, the G&F will not allow the import of pheasants unless they come with the required test documentation. The feed stores will not carry them because the G&F also require that the feed store purchase a bird farm permit and then the only way they could sell them is if they were to sell them to a person that already has a permit.

I have not run across any feed stores here that are willing to meet all the requirements and have not seen pheasants for sale except the occasional ad from Colorado breeders on craigslist that think that they can get away with it because they are out of state.

Wyoming laws sound a lot like New Mexico. One set of permits for importation of game birds or eggs and a separate permit for raising them. Applications for permission to raise have to include lots of detail including pictures of your pens, and I think you have to renew yearly. The only exempt species are chickens and domestic turkeys.

Here they physically inspect your "facilities" before they will issue a permit. Fortunately the game bird permit does cover all of the game birds, so only the one $50 permit is required.
