➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Yeah up here in the DFW area it’s going from a wonderful 80° to a nice 26° with a lovely “feel like” temperature of 13° for tomorrow night. :th
Yep, same down here in SA...not quite as cold though, only about 36°F and not above 45°F till Saturday. Was 82°F today.

I took it apart and found some down in the fan slowing it down. Plugged back in and it's better. Would be better if it had a more cfm fan.
In small bator's you don't need that much cfm, cabinet bators you do!
In small bators all you want to do is have enough to circulate the air.

When we got married, Crazy Lady thought I was insane taking apart stuff when they didn't quite work right. Then I put them back together AND they worked again (well, most of the time :D) and she was ecstatic. Then I got a few "Honey dews".

Good on ya for fixing the problem! :thumbsup

Also, when I was researching the homemade incubator, I ran across a couple warnings about using miniature cyclone simulators in small incubators that they would dehydrate the eggs. Just enough to overcome the still air and stratification was recommended.

Then after I paid for a "fan kit" for the Hovabator, the still air humidity went from 40% to less than 20% 30 minutes after starting the fan. It started to make sense. The hotter air dries out. Too much of a good thing?

Goods news - Crazy Lady asked for fried quail eggs sandwich for dinner. She likes the little yolks. :D I'll take it. Looks like I'm keeping some layers.

Yep, our weather is supposed to drop into the 40°F's the next day also. NOT looking for more rain. :barnie The yard is a quagmire. The chicken pen is a quagmire. The living room is a quagmire with all the dogs traipsing through. Usually, just after mopping. The nasty beasts.

The 2 week old, Batch #1, looking like little quail. The feathers are coming. No heat at night now. Are they only 2 weeks old?!?

Batch #2 still due on St. Valentine's Day. I should have bought chocolate stocks.
40s... that's agood day here. Not sure why everybody is complaining

Yep, when I first converted a still air, I installed a hugh computer fan in it. It blew right down on top of the eggs, eventhough, it was pulling air up, not blowing down.
Anyway, the eggs would pip and the chicks started 'shrink wrapping', even with the high humidity. I finally figured out what was happening. Changed out the fan for a 2" fan with about 300cfm. Worked like a charm.

Cause it was 80°F a couple hours ago? Damn mosquitos are terrible already! I snorted 2 while working in the yard this evening. Killed a couple hundred trying to haul me off.

40 is cold, but not cold enough to kill the blood sucking parasites.

I just installed a PC fan in my incubator. Its a styrofoam unit similar to a Hovabator. I blow the fan upwards so that air hits the ceiling of the incubator and then goes around the sides and down to the bottom to be stocked up again though the middle. It is not very intense, but a gentle, steady flow of air. Worked out great for my first hatch. Looking forward to the next one.
