➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Crowing started today! in addition to the obvious italian male, the snowy and the silver tux with more white around his eyes are both males! i’m pretty sure one or both of the rosettas are males too! the silver wild type is a definite female and i don’t have one so she’s a definite keeper!!! i don’t have an italian or snowy male either so those are probably staying too!
i unplugged their big light this morning and just plugged in one of my indoor ceramics to start weaning them off heat. I’m hoping i can get them moved to the aviary this weekend!!

I have button quail eggs going in the December hatch along. They are due to hatch in a week. Is it double dipping if I follow along here too?
Double dipping...lol, no.
Welcome.

How many did you set?
Have you had buttons before?

We started with 36 that had a very hard trip from Louisiana to California. Then a turner glitch followed by temperature fluctuations. :he After all that we have 15 developing eggs. In 7 more days we’ll find out how badly inconsistent turning and saddled air cells being set in awkward positions will affect a hatch. (It was a very rough first week.)

Pre-kid (around 15 years ago) I used to have a few pairs of buttons. Somehow my cat got the cages open — all of them — while I was at work one day. He was so thoughtful; he saved me the feet as a special gift. 😑 The new cages will have squirtgun turrets with laser sights and a “barking dog” alarm .;) But seriously, lesson learned there!

Good luck! I hope those little nutters hatch for you.

It warmed up today and will be warm until Friday, I think.
Ill leave the light on the babies for a week or so more.
I do not have heat on my adults.
I don't/wont do supplement heat for adults either. I was just curious if I should maybe add more boxes of dirt because they seem to be drafty. Also, I thought egg production would slow, not come to a complete stop. Quail are SO different from chickens in the strangest ways. I think
I wouldn't mind ordering some eggs, but have trust issues with unknown sellers :gig
Anyone here selling fertile eggs? Coturnix or button.

Myshire Farm is in OH, and they're very good. I get a lot of my eggs from them. Their customer service is excellent, and I've had good hatch rates from them.

I have heard you and Kiki talk about them. I have put several things in my cart on their site on multiple occasions, but chickened (quailed?) out. I cant make up my mind what color I want  Maybe I’ll call them and ask if I can choose the colors for the variety pack.
I didn't see buttons though. Who has a good source for those?
