➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Oh boy! I am finishing my cages in the shed, but the weather will not be consistently warm enough to put them out there yet. Currently I have 1 large 8'x3' cage in my sun room, which is heated. I really don't want to have a second cage in the sun room...

What is the lowest temp you would have coturnix quail in an unheated shed/building (there's protection from the wind)?
I have my 4 week olds outside already. when temp dropped below freezing, I put the cozy coop heater inside upstairs. I turned it on low and have left it in as a few of them like to cuddle up to it in this rainy weather. they go out to shed with heat lamp asap. when my oldest were out there, I attached heat lamp to a stand at front of cage when it dropped really low. I haven’t noticed any of my boys fighting really and I kept them in the cage all together until 7 ish weeks. not absolutely sure but i think it’s 4 boys, 3 girls.

Get some rest!
See ya in the morning for an update.
You really should go candle real quick though...you know...while it is nice and dark out.

Ok I candled last night had 8 clear. I got them out! The one that was pipped hadn't made any progress through the night or today so I helped it out of the shell. I'm glad I did, the membrane was extremely dry and no bleeding at all when I started carefully peeling so I got that little booger out! It doesn't look like I have anymore pipping as of right now this is day 19. I'll wait 3-4 more days and call it.

I can only assure you that they will be fine at about 40. That is about the lowest it has been here.

Did you notice any of the air cells drawing down in the good eggs?

Ok! Great! Well I will keep a very close eye on them!! This has been the most exciting/stressful thing I've ever done! Lol I hope after this I am better!
It gets easier/better...I promise.
My first hatch I don't think I slept for days. I remember feeling like a zombie there for a few days.
