Aggressive Roos are the worst! Do you have any sons of his that you could keep instead, maybe celadon as well? I have an aggressive jumbo male that acts like that, but I keep him around because he’s so large, I’d like to do some jumbo crosses with my new Myshire hens. I gave him his own cage in my HatchingTime cages where he can still see all the other birds but can’t hurt them, and everyone seems to be ok. Maybe something like that would be an option?Tough decision ahead. I've moved two boys out of their cages and put them in with the one bachelor left. One of the boys is downright mean. He's rough with the girls and it doesn't matter how many females you give him, he'll overmate every one of them. I've only had one hen that liked her "bad boy."
Now, he's bullying the other two boys. Problem is, I know he's full celadon and his offspring get bigger and bigger each successive generation. Part of his mean personality comes from my own inexperience in raising him.
I don't know if there are answers, I just wanted to talk among other quail people today. If anyone has thoughts though, I'd love to hear them.
I ended up clipping his long toenails then putting him back with his harem to see how he does. I had hoped to give the girls a break over the winter -- the boys are SO persistent. Younger me empathizes with them.Aggressive Roos are the worst! Do you have any sons of his that you could keep instead, maybe celadon as well? I have a male that’s a bit more aggressive than I’d like too, and he’s also a full celadon and I LOVE his markings…so I’m hoping he keeps the aggression to a minimum. So far he’s territorial and a butthead but nothing excessively damaging. The others seem to respect him and stay out of his way. I love how his feathers are almost laced.I ended up clipping his long toenails then putting him back with his harem to see how he does. He's been a little more subdued since being returned. As I was clipping his toenails, he looked like he was sure this was the end. He closed his eyes and waited. . .but he's still here.
