➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I was expecting a little more red with rosetta. Does that come in later?
There’s lots of variation and some do turn more red with age. I always referred to them as laced betties before I really knew the colors because they basically look similar to tibetan with lacing

Monday is lockdown for the buttons.

In other news, I retired one of my garden beds for the winter, and the new inhabitants are enjoying the freshly turned soil.

Hopefully we’ll remove some more tomorrow for our winter downsizing and I still need to find time to clean/turn the aviary and clean out the guinea pig area.
hopefully we will have decent enough weather after processing the Turkeys to get it all done at one time!!!!

Well both of the Italians and the pearl fee are all male.. figures, so I guess I'm only keeping one of the three. At least I have some falb fee hens this time! The two rosettas must have fee. There's just too much white in the feathers, I'll post an updated picture when they're feathered out better.

A rosetta with fee is a grau fee. You can look at myshires site and see many good pics of grau fees. Myshire leans toward the lighter grau fees, which are generally more rosetta than Tibetan, Tibetans make the darker grau fees.

My new shipment of button eggs arrived today. I had ordered more because it was looking like my last button hatch was going poorly since I had to use the nr-360. The turner was too strong for them on shelf liner, and broke a bunch on the first day set, so I had reordered some and scheduled them to arrive after the last ones hatched, but the breeder ended up having to fill another order and it set mine back a week. Anyway, they arrived today, and the box had a big dent, 3 in that corner were smashed, and I’m worried the rest got really shaken up. Time will tell.

In other news, as I’m unpacking the eggs and setting them in the trays to rest until tomorrow, my daughter screams from the bathroom, and my dog was tearing apart a chick in there. I have no idea how it got out. One got out the other day, despite having barely any feathers, so I put the lid on. I counted them when I fed them this morning and there were 15, now there are 14 and the lid is still secure, I’m assuming the kids tried to hold one and took the lid off and didn’t notice one jumped out. They both swear they didn’t touch it, but I think the harsh lesson probably scared them straight on this topic. It’s unlike my male dog to take something like that, and not bring it to me first, I’m guessing I was getting the trays from the basement at the time, and when he didn’t see me, he figured it must be ok. I’ve never lost a chick or bird to my dogs before (my female frenchie caught a fly away mid air and held it with her feet so I could get it back), and I have a lot of dogs and chicks co existing.

3 hooks on top, the lamp is held by a crane style hanger, but just about rests on the wire, no idea how it escaped without help.
