Already with this pose 🤣🤣

I did end up moving the heat plate up a bit, as the thermometer was reading 110 underneath it. It’s about 104 under there at this height, which I think is better.
I would not want it any higher than 95°F at the bedding level. You don't want them hotter than they hatched at.

I just helped the celadon egg hatch. It had been nearly 48 hours since external pip, so I figured something was up. And I’m glad I did, his air cell was saddled but I didn’t realize how far away from it he had pipped 😓 Followed the instructions for malposition and got him out pretty quickly! He just needed some help and pushed himself out once more of the shell was out of the way.

Latecomer (not that late, it’s day 19) has what I suspect to be some unabsorbed yolk 🙁 Hopefully the rest dries up, I haven’t had a good look at the belly yet and have to run to an appointment… I’ll see how it looks when I get home

Of the 12 that made it into lockdown, 7 have hatched. I candled the remaining eggs and finally removed the 3 that seemed suspicious. 2 had no development whatsoever, and 1 had a very underdeveloped embryo (definitely not ready to hatch in the next 1-3 days). I’m feeling a bit disappointed at only 7 chicks from 26 eggs, but that’s how shipped eggs go I suppose. The chick with some yolky stuff appears externally well, but still has part of the shell stuck to her. I’m hoping it falls off on its own as she continues to dry out. There are 3 remaining, that looked okay during candling (dark with defined air cells) but didn’t hear any peeping or see any movement so… we’ll see.

The chick that hatched today isn’t drying out properly… I finally went ahead and moved her to the brooder a few hours ago, since she still looks wet but isn’t. She’s almost crispy? I wonder if it’s dried yolk… do you guys think I should give her a warm soak tomorrow? I’m worried that will freeze her. I could put her back in the incubator afterward, I suppose. I’m not convinced those remaining 3 eggs will hatch, there’s not even a pip in sight… I have been giving her tiny drops of NutriDrench. She’s not able to eat on her own. (I know this one might not make it).

Leave the little one alone. It will eventually fluff up as it preens the gunk from the egg off.
