➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

10 lb cat for reference. I think these guys were butchered at 4 months (giants grow about the same as other bunnies before 8 wks so some people grow them out longer).

I'm dying. The look on the kitty's face.
It's like what the heck is in that bag.

Chickens need a certain number of sunlit hours to lay. I’m pretty sure that’s the same with quail... I’m gonna say 16 hrs... nope... I looked it up. It’s 14-15 hrs of light per day, and that’s the same for quail.

If yours are on the north side of your house, they’re getting even fewer daylight hours than your latitude allows. For all the Texans here, it’s likely they’ll never need to supplement light. Since you’re in Illinois, @BReeder! you’re still in short days. I supplement my chickens and I’ve been getting more eggs than I know what to do with since they matured around the beginning of this year. From what I hear, morning light is most important, but really, I’m not sure it matters that much. They do need the light, tho. Without it, they WILL NOT lay.
My chickens are supplemented ar well with a timer switch in or shed coop. The quail will eventually be ot the in their own section if I ever get around to finishing the three cages I started to build... For now, I may supplement light in the sunroom in the evenings and see if it helps. We'r are getting at least 12 hours of sun. I know 14 is more ideal.

So I sent a message to Myshire about not getting tracking information. He tells me this morning that he called the post office on Friday to have them bring the eggs back because he sent them to the wrong address. Our PayPal account was still set as our old address for some reason. But I had told him our correct address when I placed the order. But since it automatically spits out the PayPal address label, he forgot to change it. So he’s sending new ones out tomorrow I guess. I’m glad I asked because I would be wondering where in the heck my eggs were. We will see when they actually show up.

What do you use to make the broth with @RUNuts ?
Everything you don’t eat. No offal though.
Necks, feet, backs, gizzard, liver, heart, bones (rotisserie leftovers work great) and all that. Put in a crock pot on low for 12 hours to a couple days. Add vegetable trimmings & season. Made some amazing rosemary flavored broth for gumbo. Interesting flavor.

Also use broth for stir fry, rice, quinoa, potatoes & anything else calling for water.
