➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Some of the babies hatched. Still waiting on most of the eggs. I think the temp was a little low since they are hatching a little late.

Everything you don’t eat. No offal though.
Necks, feet, backs, gizzard, liver, heart, bones (rotisserie leftovers work great) and all that. Put in a crock pot on low for 12 hours to a couple days. Add vegetable trimmings & season. Made some amazing rosemary flavored broth for gumbo. Interesting flavor.

Also use broth for stir fry, rice, quinoa, potatoes & anything else calling for water.
What is offal?

That sounds yummy. I have one of those instant pots that uses heat and pressure to cook things quickly. I might try a crock pot vs instant pot and see if there is any difference in taste. If we buy a rotisserie chicken from Walmart, I normally save the carcass and boil it for broth. Then bag and freeze it. Its awesome for chicken and noodles.

entrails. intestines, stomach & lungs. The "I won't eat it pile".

YES! Same principal. Delicious goodness. Egg drop soup is the big driver here.

Then the chickens get all the bones and other solid pieces.

I have; duck, turkey and chicken broth and stock in my pantry. I love having jars on hand! The dog gets the duck.
Stock is great for soup, and broth for relatives that can’t handle dark stock, and things like mashed potatoes.
Broth in mashed potatoes. YUM! Do you use chicken fat in place of butter?

I like the chicken fat for stir fry. Crazy Lady complains of bacon drippings on everything.

Last quail still won't come out of the egg. I can see veining on the membrane. Dunno how this one was so much later than the others. The fluffy quail are good, very quiet in the brooder.

4 more chickens were finally out and ready so I moved them plus the first chicken (brown one) to their own brooder. They are very noisy compared to the quail. 3 more drying and at least 8 pips. All the eggs that hatched so far are from my parents flock, none from mine. :(
