I have not been on in a few days. I'm out of down for work and away from home. DW is taking care of the birds and DS. We have turkey eggs (again ) in the incubator right now and will be adding some chicken eggs with them soon. We just put the turkey eggs in on Monday when I was leaving. I got all the eggs for free from a fellow BYC member.
As for my quail though... they STILL are not laying eggs! I really wish that the days would get longer already. When I am home this weekend they are finally going into the shed. I instill some more lights so we can provide supplemental lighting like we do for the chickens. I really want to start hatching more quail soon.

I still haven’t found any eggs yet either but planning on taking out some of the Christmas hatch cockerels this weekend that are terrorizing my quail and possibly eating the eggs (if any are being laid already). I’ve found out the hard way that while they don’t yield as much meat per bird, the best age to take out some cockerel breeds is 4 months. I waited too long on that welsummer and he was almost inedible! I have seen an increase in mating though and I will have 24 at 8+ weeks old next week.

I went from happy little, quiet quail to a loud rooster leaving foam all over the place. No eggs either. Only getting 13 hours and 21 minutes of light though. Does it really need to be 14? 10 weeks old.

If the rooster just started acting mature, the hens shouldn't be too far behind. My boys usually mature a little faster than the girls.

The quail has propped herself up in the corner of her box. She feels healthy as far as no apparent injury, good weight, keel bone isn’t prominent. She has eggs and Nutridrench.
Once dry, that thing actually didn’t look creepy crawly. I’ll just keep watching.

I know it’s early yet as these eight are only just around two weeks old, but I’m definitely seeing some differences in most of them...there are a few I’m not sure of but I’ve included my best guess (or wishful thinking):

Ok, so now we’re a little over 3 weeks old and the males are getting male-ier and females female-ier, except for this one:



The speckles don’t go down the breast very far and I’m seeing a slight rustiness there as well...thoughts?
