➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Hatching has begun!! Day 17 starts at 9 pm.....2 out already....looks like 1 Tibetan and a “yeller”. Partridge babies doing good! Lost some pheasants in last 24 hours.....hubby screwed up and threw in some scratch treats not realizing they weren’t old enough and they pecked and ate some of cardboard that I used to prevent escape is what I think caused it :hit

Moved the quail into their new home today. Hubby finished up the door before taking off this afternoon but I still need to put up my gutters and watering system. They were startled for all of 30 seconds, then it was a dust bathing party!

I guess I lied, @BReeder! It’s more like 1/4” from the rim to the water line. The cup itself is 1 3/4” from the rim to the bottom of the bowl. Diameter is 2 3/8”.

If you were to make it available to hatchlings, I guess they could drown themselves in it, if they were to hop inside. Plus, you couldn’t put marbles in because that would prevent the cup from rising and activating the fill valve.

If you look closely, you can see the shine of the water line at the back of the reservoir below.

Below, you can see that the cup tips up when I set the waterer flat on a table. When the water weight lessens, the cup tips up and this opens the fill valve. I have it on a wooden block in the brooder in an effort to avoid it filling up with pine shavings. This is only partially effective.

What a nice enclosure! I'm sure your quail will live happy little lives in there.
