➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I dunno. I don’t know much, tho, when it comes to all this. Dave Holderread, in The Book of Geese, says misting helps the eggs dehydrate properly. Makes sense to me (evaporation dehydrates & cools), so I’m misting. He hatches a lot of waterfowl and has researched it extensively, so I figured, what the heck? Can’t hurt. He knows more than me—tho that’s a very low bar. :lau
I know it works for those that are diligent about it. I like the simplicity of setting, and only candling when I want, and keeping humidity stable.

I check into the evening, and at first light now. These eggs are shocking me. Nine yesterday, and TEN today!!! :th

What a nice lineup! It's fun to see how many colors they're capable of laying. If you have different colored birds, do you notice them laying certain colored eggs consistently?

Hmmm... All my Goldens lay one pattern, in one color. I'd be interested in knowing if there's been a study into the heritability of eggshells yet, but I can't seem to find one through Google.

CCs big list of reading material had a couple of egg shell studies that i read. One of them was about a strain of red quail eggs
