➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

The mamas brood up high for safety. They leap the day they hatch. Gotta respect a strategy like that.

Really, though, it doesn't hurt them. Probably not even all that uncomfortable. It's like dropping a squirrel vs dropping an elephant—one scampers off unharmed, the other not so much.

That makes sense! But still, they are so little and the fact they also have to climb out of the nest first! And figure out how to. OMG. Then they kept falling lol

And hm, that’s true. But still, it just seems so HIGH and they are sooo little lol

I know, they're so cute and little! :love

But really, I don't think we give critters in general enough credit. Their life strategies are the way the are because they work. And some strategies are hardcore.

You can see heartbeats (and sometimes wriggling) on Day 5. Very exciting!

Honestly, I've been candling almost every day . I regret not taking pictures.
It really IS exciting, isn’t it? I’m incubating duck eggs—2nd experiment with incubating. They’re supposed to be misted with water once a day, so every couple of days or so I candle them at the same time. There are only four (I started with 9, shipped, and discarded 5 clears—one of them cracked), so it doesn’t take long to candle so few. It’s amazing to see the little lives developing. Such a thrill!
