The mamas brood up high for safety. They leap the day they hatch. Gotta respect a strategy like that.
Really, though, it doesn't hurt them. Probably not even all that uncomfortable. It's like dropping a squirrel vs dropping an elephantāone scampers off unharmed, the other not so much.
Better to hunt elephants in Alabama where the Tuscaloosa.I donāt know, Iāve never dropped an elephant!
That makes sense! But still, they are so little and the fact they also have to climb out of the nest first! And figure out how to. OMG. Then they kept falling lol
And hm, thatās true. But still, it just seems so HIGH and they are sooo little lol

Long live Groucho!

Itās only day five.Iām going to candle tonight.Itās only day five.
. I regret not taking pictures. It really IS exciting, isnāt it? Iām incubating duck eggsā2nd experiment with incubating. Theyāre supposed to be misted with water once a day, so every couple of days or so I candle them at the same time. There are only four (I started with 9, shipped, and discarded 5 clearsāone of them cracked), so it doesnāt take long to candle so few. Itās amazing to see the little lives developing. Such a thrill! You can see heartbeats (and sometimes wriggling) on Day 5. Very exciting!
Honestly, I've been candling almost every day. I regret not taking pictures.
I still cannot understand the point in misting. Just another āwhatever works for youā thing. Is it dark there yet?Iām going to candle tonight.Itās only day five.
