➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Awesome coop. What are the dimensions? How many quail will you have in there total?
I have this super cool rabbit hutch that my dad built that is just sitting there empty. It's 8x4 and separated into two sides. I'll bet I could put some flooring down and use it for quail! View attachment 1799505 View attachment 1799506
Me too. I’ve reused it for so many birds in so many ways, I had it apart. The quail are on the ground, using a rabbit nesting box for their eggs. I like quail on the ground, so I don’t think I’ll make the hutch into quail pens.

You can bring the ground up to them with dirt boxes.

The original group on one half and the babies in a sectioned off area I’m thinking of as an outdoor brooder. Planning to use deep litter/bedding. Decided there were just too many tree roots and too much washout during big rainstorms to do an aviary on the ground. The whole backyard is maybe 22x30 feet so not much to work with.

What a nice hutch! Looks very clean and sturdy.

Quail eggs are shipping TOMORROW!
Hahaha. The man is going to MURDER me if I add more birds right now. Already added three goat kids, eight Welsh Harlequin ducks, two goslings, two sets of chicks, and we're on the second round of call duck eggs. Plus, more eggs coming in the mail. He, ahem, is not aware of that bit yet.

Quail don't count. They are fakers.

It seems like they take shifts at the feeder—one half goes out, and then the other. They're starting to eat some of the sawdust, so I've given them chick grit. All babies gaining mass and putting out their first feathers—so far, so good!

My family have been helping me keep an eye on them while I'm at work. Everybody already has their favorites, the ones they're hoping are hens .
