➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

For cricket eggs, you get a flat of moist earth with the eggs in it. Special conditions and all. Then the little hoppers come out and you have to feed & water them. Crazy Lady started, I tried to rescue and failed. Interesting side bar. Stinks. Smelled like roaches.

When you open the lid, they scattered everywhere. I just took the whole thing into the chicken yard and they cleaned up the escapees. Not worth the effort, imho.

Interesting. How long do they take to hatch?
I have a thing outside that was once a coop, first for ducks, converted to chickens, now it just sits in my yard with a feeder for whoever is out grazing at any given time. At night it’s always full of crickets!

i’ve managed to get hubby to agree to letting me add a red golden pheasant pair to my flock! I asked for them for Christmas but he will probably just give me the final yes and let me handle the shipping stuff after the holiday. he has already started planning for their own little aviary in my koi pond area of the yard! I also asked for more quail eggs for Christmas but either he is trying to surprise me or he really thinks my 8 is enough for the space I have right now....I haven’t figure out which yet!

I wanted some pheasants too, but we have to have a special permit for them, inspections, aviary specific guidelines, etc. Looked to be more of a hassle than I wanted to deal with. :hmm
Good luck though! Can’t wait to see them when you get them.

Not my picture. Saw these on FB. I have never seen blue quail eggs!

@WVduckchick , is that state or county regulations? Never heard of that strict of rules for ornamental pheasants.

State. I’m pretty sure it still is in effect, but I need to look it up again. I don’t think they separate ornamentals.
i just looked up my state laws.....in indiana they actually list ringneck and bobwhite as species requiring license as game bird

Wyoming is the same way. They do not make a distinction between any of the varieties of pheasants just like they do not make an exception for Coturnix quail. Here anything considered a game bird has to be in an escape proof enclosure (no free ranging allowed) and requires a G&F permit.

This is controlled by the celadon gene! I had a blue layer - she got eaten by a bear :S I have one chick from one of her eggs, and since it's a recessive I'm hoping within ~three months (gotta love quail - bird guppies) I'll have blue eggs again.

EDIT: Sorry, I forgot to quote the blue eggs comment and now I can't seem to...
