➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I agree and just did it. Food and water in the incubator. Lights off.
#8 has joined us.
#9 zipping.
#10 we await.

Re-re-reconfigured brooder at 96°F and holding under the light. Heating pad under half the floor. Figure this out tomorrow. Been a big day. Thanks for coming along. :thumbsup
Wake up! Number ten is here!

Ewww I never put food or water in the incubator! :sick
Of course, mine only stay in the bator for maybe 2-6 hours, unless they are slow moving. In that case they still aren’t ready for food and water yet.

I loved my Brinsea heat plate when I first started using it. But I’ve since switched to ceramic reptile heat bulbs.

:rant
I have a post office from... the hot place. They don’t call about chicks until the afternoon in case someone is sleeping. Even if you tell them the day before to call as soon as they get in. So, I used to wait outside, watch them be taken off the truck, and brought to the dock...
The mailman was three hours late delivering mail. He left $300 of eggs on the side of the highway, on the ground, in the freezing rain. The next day he stammered that he’d pay for them. I told him the cost, and never saw a cent. They were from a local BYC member, so we skipped the insurance. I’m not sure if that’s covered anyway.
mine has always been good until this episode. chicks they called me @7am and the lady kept them right beside her until i arrived. eggs have always been handled with care and delivered intact. hopefully i’m just being a bit neurotic and this postman kept them safe and didn’t deliver because he was afraid they’d freeze. i guess i will know soon as i’m going to watch for arrival and give my 2 cents worth!! they post clearly what the package is!!

One hot summer day, I had 2 packages of eggs due to arrive on the same day. I got the delivery text on one, so I rushed home to make sure they weren’t left in the hot sun. Only one package was there, but both had said Out for Delivery.
While I was unpacking the eggs, probably an hour after delivery, the mail lady came back to the door, she had forgotten the other box, and said she knew I’d want them, so she made a special trip back to me.

So some are good, some just don’t care, and are in it for a paycheck only.

#10 thinking real hard about it.

Leaving them in the incubator until after work when I can hover like Kiki. Any chance of overheating the little things?

Will vinegar work to sterilize the incubator for the next clutch? Dip everything in bleach? Looks like most of the food is consumed. A bit has been flung to the nether regions.

One chick (#7 I believe) still dragging the shell around by the butt hairs. Some people just can't let go. One with curled toes. A couple are getting ready for the Indianapolis 500. This is 1.5 days for the oldest. Rum for everyone tonight!

You can use a bleach/water solution. Just rinse well, and air dry.
I just use blue dawn. :p

Scrub with hot water and Dawn dish soap, spray down with half and half bleach and water and sit in the sun if possible to dry. Don't get the electrical parts wet.
