What size of brooder do you have for 7 and how long do you brood them for? They seem ALOT more fragile than ducks.

I have done that many a couple times and I have like a little wooden winebox deal that works great for about 7-10 days and keeps them nice and contained and toasty, then they move to the 12 square foot pop out softsided dog crate thingy until they stop fluttering around. I usually set the former in the latter until they start jumping out of it and then I do away with the small box (better protection from lurking housecats).

10 gal fish tank, for maybe one or two weeks They're very suicidal so they need special care. Then they get switched to a normal brooder for chickens, either inside or out depending on the weather.

I tried brooding them like chicks once. Lost two in less than a week.

Ours seem super flighty. I opened the lid and the hubs shoves his hand in there to help me (he’s trying) change their water. Two flutter out and smack their head on the floor and die.:barnie I wanted to tell him thanks but no thanks on the help, but with almost 300 in a few weeks I’ll probably need his help.:th

What do you think did them in? I’ve lost 2 to falling/jumping out of the brooder, 2 runts, 3 with splay leg (I’m pretty sure that was my fault) and one got pecked to death. Very different than ducks.

1 got stuck between the heating pad and the walls, one squeezed out of the bars and died on the floor. I like glass walls, paper towels, and overhead heat sources.

Almost lost another one when it got its head stuck under the heating pad supports. :th Chicks never do that.
