➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I dunno.. seems pretty extreme on the curly toe scale :idunno. And if it is genetic, and I fix it, then I wont know who had dicky toes and I might breed from them?

I just did some Dr Google reading.. it looks as though is can be a vitB2 deficiency, and genetic. I think I will cull them.
I say off the dicky toes now. Then you won't have to be babying them.

Just a bit curly on the toes I think is a-ok. But when the whole foot is curled inwards and they are walking on ankles.. :hit

I culled them already. One of Dr google results said it was very painful for them. That was enough for me.

That leaves 24 healthy looking fluff balls making a mess!
Good deal.
:hugs

:rant No. I think she’s too mellow to get excited. Good for her, she can sleep. Bad for me, I have to keep wondering! :barnie
I agree. I think you should do it yourself next time! :old

After the broody hatched last year, I'm waiting for another. Funny thing still is, it was a Leghorn hen who hatched the clutch. I'm not holding my breath. In an unrelated note, news is getting around that I sell eggs and customers are finding me. If I were in business, I'd have to expand. Since this is a hobby, we shall see. I'm amused by the turn of events.

The black Australorp is a striking addition next to the white Leghorns. DD#2 came home for Christmas and taught the Australorp that people have delicious treats. So we went from not being able to get near her to having her under foot asking for BOSS. Not so politely, I might add. :gig

I

I wouldn’t breed them but if you are raising them for meat. I reason not to try to fix their feet for quality of life until butcher day. If they can’t be fixed then cull. But that is just me.
I agree. I keep forgetting that some people don't raise for meat.

As soon as I am sure of the other supplies I am going to purchase, I am going to get a quail turner.
I have a thread to ask quail questions so that I do not clog up this thread. I was answered by one person, but need to be confident. Is this what @Texas Kiki said to use?

If I keep the incubator going, according to my assumptions, I can complete 14 batches of quail in a year. If they are harvested at 8 weeks, this can be done in 3 grow out cages/brooders. While this is a good academic exercise, I'm sorely tempted to try it.

Does anyone keep constant batches going yearly? Besides the hatcheries.

I stick the quail eggs in the chicken racks. Limits me to 42 (may not be a bad thing). They sit in the bottom but clear the bottom of the incubator. Holds them securely. How many quail are you hatching? 120 seems like a lot to me. So for this year, I'm learning.
