Okay good, I'm glad the consensus is they can hang around until butcher time as long as they're doing well. I was able to completely correct one of my wee ones with a crooked foot, but I have another small one being resistant and an older one it's just far too late for. They're all gaining weight almost as fast as their siblings, though, and don't seem to be in pain.

Yes! The smell changes distinctly to new poopy baby like a day before hatch, and then I personally find the post-hatch incubator smell *atrocious*, so I try to snag eggshells as they're produced, it helps a little.

I can not wait to smell my bator my next hatch.

I didn’t. It was interesting tho, it is listed as Mazuri on amazon and I went to the mazuri.com website but I believe they are owned by purina. PMI Nutrition International? Wholly owned subsidiary I think. Anyway, there were no minimums. Don’t see that option on the purinamills site but there may be another brand that has a direct ship option.

I remember figuring out who Mazuri was a while back. I forget now but Purina does sound right.

I just confirmed pick up of 4 dozen eggs for next Saturday. I also think I have 3 layers now based on egg color and pattern

accomplished quite a bit today for Sunday Funday! cleaned shed brooder, fresh layer of pine bark in the run, fresh shavings in nesting boxes, cleaned and put up 78 chicken eggs that didn’t have cartons, and made 2 new quail hideaways/nesting boxes! (big black one is first one, smaller one is today...made a teal and a purple one)

oh and it looks like I’ll probably be ordering that 2nd 56 egg incubator and doing actual staggered hatch this time, because I put in a bid on 30 pearl eggs an hour before end and actually won!!

same seller.....from myshire fb auction. usually pearl and snowy max out before auction end so I never dreamed I’d get it with an hour left!! got it for $22 when regular price is $30

Do you think Quails would decimate my strawberry & blueberry plants if I put them in quail land? They are in pots so probably not.

I thought maybe if I use them along one fencline, add some sticks and stuff, they can become extra hidey places ?
(Inspired by all the talk of hidey places, I think I might be lacking a little)

In other news.. my January (blue band) hatch are a couple of days away from being 7weeks old.. with exception of the boy in my freezer, I can't be sure how many boys or girls I have yet.. no crowing.. no foam.. no eggs..

The brown one I am sure is a boy -I mean, he has a brown chest! He is hilarious, if I put my finger out to try touch him, he chirp chirp tells me off, pecks me, then let's me pat him in exchange for mealworms cracks me up.
