➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Wow Muddy!!! BIG hatch!!!! :fl:fl
yes! a 75% hatch rate is 40 chicks! and if I stay out of it, could be more than that! going with my final brooder setup of heatpad + white lightbulb and fingers crossed for 90+% survival rate from hatch! nutridrench water for first 3 days, vitamin water for 1 week after that.

Wowee , I think 70% is impressive. I'm over here having a party if I surpass 50% :celebrate

Edit to say..

I'm totally still a noob. I did stop interfering with hatches a while back when I realised they die if I touch them. I dunno why I sabotaged my first 'own' hatch. That was very silly of me.

They used to house mirrors. My neighbor was throwing them out one day and I grabbed them quick with doors in mind.

Wow Kiki, so creative! I love the picture frame doors! I’m just here spying on ya’ll. Interested in quail but not sure whether I should jump into them just yet. It’s been so cold & we don’t have an indoor space to build, so I’m way behind on my projects for this spring.

I have a quick question. I use deep bedding with my chickens. I started with a few inches (some folks start with the whole 12”) and have been adding to the top/stirring it up since then. I love it. No smell, no poopy feet (well, not usually anyway), no cleaning out the coop constantly, and you get nearly-done compost in the spring. Can one build in an extra however many inches to the quail house floor and use this method for quail?

I’ve not seen information saying no, but I don’t think so. The bedding shouldn’t be deeper than they are big, and because they are so tiny, they are very close to the bedding.

Quail are very small critters, and can stay in a hamster cage or fish tank. You should definitely start on your quail. Just think, eggs in six weeks!

i noticed my first real quail scuffle today.....i went out before the storms started and made sure to spread a little corn treat near the quail so they wouldn’t have to peck around the chickens and my pansy from the january hatch was fighting over it with my pharaohs from the november hatch. my red, pearl, and falb seem to keep to themselves but the pansies like to be with the pharaohs. ??? not sure if it’s a color thing or possible gender thing???

Tonight is day 6 and I just candled my eggs and most of the chicken ones have happy little spiders swimming away. I couldn't tell for the quail, I think they need more time. But all 7 of 7 turkey eggs show development!!!! I'm so excited!!!
:celebrate. How many total eggs are set?
