Hi @BullChick - has Duckling gotten her quail meat yet? Tick-tock. Kids are fickle.

I haven't cleaned mine out yet either. Got too much meat in the fridge to add to the pile.

Lent is here and gorged on home boiled crawfish yesterday. I got the big belly! Yum.

7 ounces with back bone. You don't make quail broth with the heart, gizzard, and spine? The chicken broth is wonderful.

Can you show us the gizzard? How little is it? With a quarter dollar coin, if you would please ma'am.

Do quail give off some scared to death scent just before they die? I'm trying to figure out if I'm smelling the stink right before they die or after they die.

I should’ve gotten pics for you yesterday!!! Hubby decided not to keep because so small as he had plenty from the 2 chickens. I don’t eat the hearts/livers/gizzards but he does so don’t go to waste usually. He gave the dogs a bowl of leftover innards but they wouldn’t eat them either! Also found a mouse in my empty food bin today.....I transferred it to water bucket to drown it....same dog that got quailie snatched it out and dispatched it for me.

And yes I screamed like a little girl with a skinned knee at the mouse as I almost reached in the bin and grabbed it think it was an escaped quail baby!! I had already found 1 escapee baby dead in the shed. Going to cover hutch door with HW cloth tomorrow to prevent escape. Hubby closed hole today that 5 week old climbed through

Only one mature female.
Rest had baby balls still.
