➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I did and they came in just fine. Sorry to hear some of yours were cracked. That is a BUNCH of eggs! I can't imagine hatching that many at once. I did, however, order a second bator that should be here tomorrow. LOL
What kinda bator did you get?

I have a hovabator and a little giant I believe. I can put 230 eggs in it. :old

We want quail for training our hunting dogs. And a lot of our friends dogs. I think quail are tasty also. So the males will probably go in my freezer.

Here is Carmel and Ham when they were babies. They are a year old now.

I spend a lot of time with these girls, and while they poop as much as any cow, I’ve never known them to, um, flatulate...

View attachment 1718130 Why wait? These fluffies aren’t milk cows but I’m gonna milk them all the same. They’re so easy to fence in... single strand equine electric rope. (Of course the calves will need more than a single strand, but still easy.) Seriously, life is too short not to have cows. :wee

:celebrate They are wonderful! So shaggy! Highlanders?

My someday dream is a pair of mini beltie heifers, just enough to put a yearling in our freezer every year. Maybe just a couple of goats for milk, I like their cheese more anyways.

I have also not anecdotally known cows to be particularly farty, but apparently it is an ecological concern when magnified to a huge, HUGE scale. Luckily it is just a diet-controlling-methane-output thing. Not like my teeny future herd will make much of a difference but I like to do what I can. I think pig's farts are even worse but they're less resource-intensive to feed so it kind of balances out.

I bought no meat at the grocery store this week, and ate plenty of it! Is a great feeling. :D

:love They want me to come over and brush their bangs.:D

Yes! Today was 13 channel cat and 1 yellow bass.....yesterday was 12 or 13 channel cat and 1 striped bass. Too bad we’re fishing for crappie :lau:lau
Nom nom nom...., I’ll take those!

My goal for the summer is to get my pekin ducks tame enough to actually re-create this picture with an actual duck. LOL!
Put one of them in a tote..... they will peek out of it in a jiffy! Or the bath tub.

The belties are so cute! I wanted mini Highlands, but they’re really hard to source around here and really expensive. Regular highlands seem to be pretty small anyway (unless they’re mixed with bigger breeds), so I’m okay with their size. You can milk the Belties, you know. Unless you need a lot of milk. Beef cattle (like highlands) tend to give naturally homogenized milk like goats, but it can be separated with a separator, too. People love their goats, tho. They’re just harder to fence. That’s why I decided on cows.

I love that you’re doing your own meat. That’s my goal, too. DH says I’ll never slaughter any of my animals... I’m afraid he’s gonna think I’m a bad person when he finds out... I’ve got Red Rangers coming in a week or two (got to check!) The cows are safe, tho... they’re my breeders. :love Except for the mean one (not in the pic).:rant
