My niece turns 1 this week and I am getting her a quail stuffed animal and a quail book...was gonna order a custom baby hat that says "q is for quail" but that shit is wayyyy to expensive like wow.

Soon we will have more quail crazy youngsters :old

yes i got several tibetans (dark range) in this batch! they sometimes look almost black as chicks. adult feathers tend to come in more chocolate brown with varying amounts of red. 1 is tibetan tuxedo. i’m guessing they were in assorted batch. lots of “yellers” in the SSC batch....may end up with more white/light silver. looks like a couple more snowy and maybe more pastels too! if my count is correct I have at least 28 hatched so far with a couple working on it and a few more pippers!

Nooooooottttttt to be an enabler but I just Googled “q is for quail baby hat” and a bunch came up!! Cafe Press has tons of quail hats already made for pretty cheap! Ones with pictures of quail , ones with the q is for quail, etc. so you could just buy a premade one! :D has a super cute graphic too! :D ;) :p

So yesterday was day five and I candled last night. Of the 32 eggs 3-4 looked to not be developing and another 3-4 were too dark to see much of anything. The rest looked to be developing fairly well from what I could see.

So I know not everyone candles but for those who do when do you make the call to pull the duds and get rid of them? I question my candling ability do to limited experience but wouldn’t mind getting them in the auto turner if there were few enough “good” ones left to all fit.
you’re using a janoelle 12 and have 33 eggs, right? You should be able to fit 24-25 in the auto turner with dividers and I have gotten 30 in it without the dividers. I put questionable eggs on the outside edges of the turner and hand turn those 2x daily until I feel comfortable tossing the “duds”. I reorganize at every candling to ensure equal heat and turning to all developing eggs. I use grippy shelf liner over grate at lockdown even though it’s not absolutely necessary in the janoelle 12. I usually use a sponge to help hold humidity and add water through vent hole using a marinade injection syringe at lockdown to reduce opening of the incubator. if you have any questions feel free to ask....I’ve run both chicken and quail hatches through mine with overall good hatch rate....I currently use it more for overflow, and staggered hatches.
