➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

you’re using a janoelle 12 and have 33 eggs, right? You should be able to fit 24-25 in the auto turner with dividers and I have gotten 30 in it without the dividers. I put questionable eggs on the outside edges of the turner and hand turn those 2x daily until I feel comfortable tossing the “duds”. I reorganize at every candling to ensure equal heat and turning to all developing eggs. I use grippy shelf liner over grate at lockdown even though it’s not absolutely necessary in the janoelle 12. I usually use a sponge to help hold humidity and add water through vent hole using a marinade injection syringe at lockdown to reduce opening of the incubator. if you have any questions feel free to ask....I’ve run both chicken and quail hatches through mine with overall good hatch rate....I currently use it more for overflow, and staggered hatches.
It never occurred to me that I could run the auto turner without the dividers. That still works? I bet I could fit the “good” ones in the turner then.

it’s not ideal but it does work....just have to keep a little closer eye on things to ensure that they are turning properly (but easier than hand-turning for sure!).

Ok! This is how insane I am: I need to try to find someone who will make/embroider.....me, the dog, niece, and niece's mom some custom quail overalls/b ball caps. Maybe dog doesn't need a cap

OMG do it!! And actually, I bet that Cafe Press sure already carries all of those things in addition to the baby stuff! Lol worth a look!!

Oh god. I found baby bodysuits with quails :th

OMG get it!! And a hat!! And maybe some matching socks or a onesie. :love

so I posted on friday that remaining partridge are doing great inside.....pheasants on the other hand started dying on me Saturday. I initially thought it was due to eating cardboard or scratch that hubby threw in cage. I cleaned it all out and the remaining ones all seemed fine. I lost 2 more today...1 overnight and the 2nd was in bad shape at 5 and now within minutes of death. they get lethargic, fall over, and then gasping before they finally expire occurring over a period of about 8-10 hours from first sign. Food is correct....heat seems acceptable (no real piling up and no injuries) still have nutridrench water. Poop seems normal. wondering if I should mix in some medicated chick starter as an extra precaution?? I always expect some loss from hatching shipped eggs and hatchery stock chicks, but i’m now down to 7 and don’t want to lose more if something else i can do to prevent it. @007Sean ???

Kinda sounds like several things could be the culprit. Infectious Bronchitis, Mycoplasma Gallisepticum and Aspergillosis.
How old are they? Are they sneezing, have nasal discharge or raleing? Do they have a fluffed up appearance? What kind of bedding are you using? Have you changed the feed they were eating? Were the eggs you set dirty? Sorry for all the questions but just trying to narrow it down. Pheasants are usually pretty healthy at hatch.
At the very least I'd start them on an antibiotic, erythromycin or oxytetracycline. They both can be added to their water or in feed. Although if it's infectious bronchitis there is no medication that will cure it, only help reduce mortality rate due to secondary infections. Also raising the temperature of the brooder by 5 to 10°F may help in lowering the mortality rate, if it's IB.
IB is primarily a chicken disease but pheasants and turkeys can contract it.
Do you have chickens, also?

My brother found a duckling in his window well—looks pretty young, by the size and lack of adult feathers. Looked for the mama, but she stayed silent.

Gonna pop it under the brooder (with some extra hot water bottles, just in case). We've got a great Bird Rescue locally, but they aren't open at midnight.

My sister and I raised a wild duckling when we were kids.. She was just a couple of days old when we got her and we just kept her in a cardboard box. Made a cosy little nest for her, but we had no additional heat and she survived. So I wouldn't worry about yours being too cold in the brooder. But it'll definitely be unhappy about being alone, so the bird rescue should be the best place for it (assuming mom doesn't turn up).

I picked the pheasants up on Wednesday (they shipped from Hoover Hatchery to Rural King.) estimate them to be 1 week old yesterday? I put them in my small animal cage brooder on puppy pads. They have been alone in that cage since I moved the partridge chicks inside Thursday night. heat is same red 125W heat lamp I have used for many hatches. Feed is Manna Pro Gamebird Showbird out of same new bag I chopped up for pheasants/partridge/quail. nutridrench in water. No signs of any issues until 5 days old. I lost 6 over 24 hour period from friday to Sunday am. (I cleaned all offending materials out of brooder after first 2). there was about a 24 hour period then that all seemed healthy with no issues and then BAM 1,2 down. i have my 3 week old quail, 1 adult button, and 2 silkie cross chicks in brooder below them but no signs/symptoms of any issues there. they (quail and “quickens”) are getting released in the aviary (except button) this afternoon as cold front has moved out. they have shown no signs of any type of upper respiratory infection.....the deaths have been similar to other “brooder” chick deaths I’ve seen. perfectly fine running around eating, drinking etc and then next time checked too far gone to save. the gasping comes at the end once they are almost gone. at that point they have managed to crawl small distance from where i have placed them in the brooder before expiring. At bedtime last night, I was going to remove the one but it was still “fighting” I made it as comfortable as possible because I couldn’t find my stuff to go ahead and cull it. will be going out within the hour for morning feeding. :fl remaining 7 are still ok. I may be able to get video of remaining chicks.
