➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

They look kind of like my one sandyish girl but without being able to put them side by side in the same lighting there's no way of knowing, sigh.

At one point I had her, some roux dilute, scarlet, red range, tibetan, dilute pharoah, and silver pharoah all in the same hatch group, and they all looked like a perfect gradient from dark red to light tan. The differences are minimal, I tell ya what.

Thats what im starting to struggle with those minimal differences. Some have a doubled stripe on the head some have a V some have thicker or thinner--within the same color phase. Then they all look different but then there are like 6 diff color phases with all these differences! :th

That is Really cool and exciting:pop
I'm getting pumped. Someone the other day told me I could sell celadon eating eggs in San Francisco for 20$/dozen. Gotta get at them hipsters lol. My 2 irl friends are freakishly excited also. One is a welder and wants to make me crazy decals/signs for the aviary. The other is all about making quail stew :gig

Yeah, I saw that.

I was 95% sure that Sean and R2elk would tell me something like it was one or two rookie mistakes.
Nope, no rookie mistakes. I suspect they didn't get enough of a certain vitamin, mineral in the ovum when it was developing...that's usually what's wrong with chicks that pip then die, or a genetic lethal gene.

So psyched for those eggs/chicks! I am one of those hipsters who'd happily buy blue eating eggs, just for the novelty of it (I'd buy celadon hatching eggs, too, but nobody tell my family that :D).

How's the aviary site coming along—got any progress pics? :pop

EDCFA65D-9620-4A8D-898B-B1F5A4082264.jpeg We have a baby!! :weeI went out to feed this morning and for heck of it I moved a silkie to check the eggs and there was this little guy! The other one looks to have been breech and suffocated trying to get out of his shell. Of course I didn’t have anything prepared so I put him in an egg carton while I threw my brooder together. He was 90% fluffy but I didn’t want to risk leaving under momma hen as a loner. Both were wild type coloring but this one seems to be showing a bit of red.

What am I forgetting? Why can’t the broody keep it?
