Shoot.well it looks like i may have had first āpredatorā attack on my aviary! As i was doing my egg hunt today, I found a dead quail behind hutch. when I moved and inspected further, there was a 2x2ā square hole in netting that is over hardware cloth. my guess is a rat?? not exactly sure where it came from to get in that way without alerting dogs to its presence. Whatever it was ate the head and stripped feathers off without entering or pulling the quail through the hole. planning to put a rat bait box under deck in case it comes back.
Rats are a problem in a community garden I'm part of. We made a poultry netting enclosure over a straw bale garden, similar pvc setup to yours, and it only lasted a month or so before rats made several holes and ate everything inside...well it looks like i may have had first āpredatorā attack on my aviary! Correct. The second egg pictured is not fertile.#2 looks like a dud, the one that appears green, no veining and can't see even a shadow of the yolk. I'm very new to quail eggs, so tryin' to learn![]()
The 3rd one pictured...I can see the veins in person but it's hard to pick up on the camera.#2 looks like a dud, the one that appears green, no veining and can't see even a shadow of the yolk. I'm very new to quail eggs, so tryin' to learn![]()
