➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Thx.

I'll quit hatching if I have the same problems again this time.
Get a generator and set it up, Kiki. Our power was out for just under a week with our last big snowstorm. (Which happened a disturbingly short time ago) NP as far as the duck eggs were concerned. All the eggs I thought looked good hatched plus one “not-so-sure” one. Plus we still had water, which is HUGE. TOTALLY worth it. I’m really excited about the generator (can you tell?) Only thing is, we ought to have gotten a bigger one.

I have one...it was just too much work to get to it for that time.
I really don't think the power outage/cool down hurt them any. I don't know for sure but I'm pretty sure my temp spikes did the damage.

I usually only have to worry about power outages during hurricane season..which might be now.:th

Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free.
Cool! I never knew that... never even heard of it. Thanks, Sean!

Juneteenth is a big deal down here. People have been partying all week.
And I grew up in FL which, to be fair, (if I remember right) wasn’t even a state when the big event went down but still... It also didn’t attract much in the way of population until AC was invented, which was when my folks moved down there. Was born in and now live in SD, which also of course wasn’t a state, so maybe that’s why I didn’t know. :idunno Weird. I can’t believe I’ve never heard of it and me turning 60 this year.

Okay, I have a couple questions about incubating.

Temperature: My incubator seems to run about .5-1 degrees cool. It says 100, and according to the thermometer I put inside, the temperature inside is 99-99.5 degrees. If I bump it up to 101, it gets about 99.7-100.5. Which is better?

Humidity: There's a super annoying alarm that goes off if the humidity drops to 40%, but if I add a pipette of water, it goes up to about 50% for about an hour, then drops again. If I add more, the humidity goes as high as 70%, gradually dropping. For example, I added 4 pipettes full last night before I went to bed, and it was at 42% when I got up this morning. Is that okay?

@Nabiki Id turn that alarm off until hatch time but then it could be pretty handy. I run mine like kikis saying 30% but thats about where it stays when its dry usually. This time its lower as our ambient humidity is lower than normal ( :yesss: for chores!)
I would love to turn the alarm off, but it can't be turned off. It even says so in the user manual. I thought the humidity seemed too high. Maybe I could find and cut the wire or put the incubator out in the garage where I can't hear it.
