➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Used to have my quail in cages in the covered carport; random cat discovered them and was terrorizing them. They currently live in my screened and covered back patio, still in their cages. I made this move over a month ago, and just this week the cat came back around, was fussing with the patio door, trying to get in... Fat chance with that!

Hatch is a day and a half early; I've been suffering late hatch (and many failed to get out of the shell) on those hatches. Today, I have 3 already hatched [edited: make that four] and chirping strong. I'm thinking that neither the incubator thermometer nor the one I bought at the pharmacy is correct. Incubator thermometer gives me late hatch, pharmacy thermometer gives me early hatch. I'm thinking that next time I'll just split the difference and should get a perfect hatch! I paid about $30 for the pharmacy thermometer, and it was the cheapest one available!

Must calibrated one.

Congratulations on the babies.
How many left to hatch?

I started with 41, but removed 18 infertile eggs. Of the 23 remaining, one was questionable and was removed upon lockdown and eggcropsied, was also infertile but wasn't certain until opened as the shell was VERY darkly patterned. So... 4 of 22 have hatched so far, and they appear strong. Still wet, so haven't moved them to the brooder yet, but have it warming up (a day early) now that they're popping out of their shells. I wish I knew how to calibrate the thermometer I bought at the pharmacy as I expect that its electronics should be superior to those in my incubator. Sometimes I think that all electronic rejects find their way onto Panamanian store shelves, since all things intended to work have a 50/50 chance of actually working; and the warranty for all sales only lasts until you fork over your hard earned cash.

Currently have 17 of 22 hatched out. Concerned about the five left; no pips noticed and don't feel movement within; sure hope they didn't quit since they were SO CLOSE to the finish line. Incidentally, this was the best hatch rate I've had since I started incubating eggs, so must surmise that a little bit too warm is better than not warm enough; unless I find developmental problems while these chicks grow.
