Hey! Your tree copied what mine did a few weeks ago.

Anybody keeping quail on wire? I'm looking for ideas on keeping odor down from all their poop. My outdoor cage is about 4' off the ground. The poop just falls onto dirt below. I thought of composting, but I don't want heat and fumes from the pile to rise right into the quail cage. Deep litter maybe? It would get a bit wet though. The quail cage has a solid roof to protect the quail from rain, but some rain will get on the dirt (and deep litter if I went that route) since the roof is about 5' off the ground. I fear deep litter would get moldy and smell worse than just the poop on dirt.
Yes, I put wood chips to catch the poop, yard waste and kitchen scraps. The chickens stir judiciously. When I get ready to compost, everything goes to the bin. Nitrogen rich. Hasn't gotten deep enough under the coop to heat.

I have a few very large trees around our house. This scares me. I recently began trimming them and cut one down completely to avoid something like this from happening. I hope my efforts are successful.

please please someone delete me from the auction site!!! especially when i’m enjoying life by the pool!!! no one outbid me in 3 hours!!!! what’s up with that???? :idunno guess the incubators will keep running until august!! this “accidental” win is a 120 egg mystery box!! hahahahahahaha:hit:hithubs is gonna kick my butt!!!:smack:oops:

:caf Would it work to make a feedbag poop hammock? Or, make it angle down into a bag/wheel barrel or bin?
I don't have a feedbag big enough. Maybe a tarp... The cage is 8'x3'. I would need several feedbag hammocks. Angle into a container would be nice. I fear that the container would also collect rainwater though. That would be a sh!tty situation. :sick It would be nice to easily collect it all for the compost pile though.

I think that deep litter is going to be what I do, even if I just build up dirt and poop and then shovel it out and spread in the garden in late fall. We have a 3 bin compost system already, so our kitchen scraps, yard waste and chicken poop all go in there already. The chicken poop is just much easier to harvest since we have a poop board covered in sand under their roosts. I don't see how poop boards would work under the quail though since they are outdoors where it could be exposed to rain.

I'm safe from those. My incubator holds a maximum of 48, so it's easy to talk myself out of a "deal" like that. The 30-60 count auctions, though... I could squeeze 60 in temporarily and cull out the clears after a week, right? ;)
