➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

My TSC cages cost $27 each. I can't really make them for that. A 15' roll of cage wire is $30, plus hardware cloth for the bottom, cage clips, skin rips & cuts, anger management, etc. Yeah. I do reinforce them with zip ties though:gig

:lau true not to mention I was planning on making full on rabbit hutch type things with wood and everything which buying the wood is probably expensive and of course potentially injuring myself with the saw :lau  and the time to build it lol although that said we do have a huge roll of hardware cloth just sitting around so I suppose I should probably use it.... idk. I was kind of thinking I might like to have them on the ground anyway though so I really don’t know... so many options and ideas. :hit

we were planning to build them but ran short on time and tolerable weather, so this was the answer. we just attached my “prototype” to the fence on a shelf made from scrap 2x4 and used a piece of metal roofing over the top to provide shade (shopping for corrugated plastic roofing for future ones)

That sounds like a good idea.

You aren't scared or rats or mice getting in the cages by not having them wrapped with hardware cloth?

Do they eat quail!?

Yes they do eat quail.

I can tell you that in my 36x24 inch cages I won't put more than 5 adults in one.
I have babies loaded in them now but they don't count.

supposedly 3 jumbo per sq foot but I personally would not permanently house them that way.

Thank you both. This is very helpful. I was actually thinking kind of similar to that amount anyway, @Texas Kiki Like that I would put one or two less than it could actually hold so it wouldn’t be too crowded. But I wasn’t sure. So I’ll definitely do that then. Or make my own. Idk haha

Yes they do eat quail.

OMG that’s concerning!

, off with his head.
:lau

i’m adding 30x30 rabbit cages for grow-outs etc. haven’t decided yet if we are stacking or combo of singles and some stacked. i put a scrap 2x8 on either side to give them a spot to get off the wire. it’s working really well so far!

I use wood too for the same thing having the baths on the wood helps the poop not build up as it gets coated in sand dries out and gets walked off.

I think what breeder said its a lil less than professional no big deal no ones first is beautiful

 Was that meant to make me feel worse? Yes, there were issues. Stuck skin was an issue, but I was busy handling other issues too. I certainly won’t be so unprepared and distracted if I dare try again.
The question is if (aside from the eggs) there are intestines I missed.

I disagree w kiki i think you have things left behind PM me if ud like id b glad to help

Wait...I was saying that I don't care if it doesn't look perfect that it looks good to me.

Was she asking if she left something behind?
If so I totally missed that.
My bad.
