➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Quail getting into position to break out of the egg
I don't know if I updated you all earlier, but we are up to 26 live quail hatchlings. Another one pipped and should hatch soon. We have had 5 pass away in total. Theres still 6 more eggs we are waiting on. I will likely leave them until tomorrow evening since I will be gone at work during the day tomorrow and cannot convince myself to turn the incubator off tonight when an egg just pipped as bit ago.

:woot:woot

Yea i wouldnt turn it off! u had that staggered set this time. Do u think ull be able to keep from the losses in the future?

The losses are not a huge surprise. I decided to not assist hatches at all this time. 1 was shrink wrapped. 1 was trampled. 1 had badly splayed legs. 1 didn't fully absorb the yolk sac. The 5th one I honestly cannot recall... I think there was one found dead in the incubator.
I could have avoided the shrink wrapped one, but I didn't want to assist and I didn't realize the humidity dipped down a bit.

Yes sir i understand, jus wondered if there was anything proactive that could be done. I know it was a real tough one for you too, not able to be there half the time w ur work trips. The unabsorbed yolk might mean he was in a hot spot.

My lucky 13 that hatched 100% are doing good. 6 silvers, 4 of them are very blue, 2 are very light, hoping CCs theroy holds true :fl 7 wild type

2 1/2 wks old. Some red brests and some spotted breasts coming in

If i had done it right, at 6 wks, for 120 feed? i could sell them all 15 to the wonderful landlord at 60$ cutting him anice deal n then break even and be just at breeding colonys paying their feed bill and myself.

:he:he:he
Dont feed your roosters longer than necessary.
:he:he:he

Now ill shut up.

I think your blues are actually lavenders! Recessive, not feather sexable, safe to breed together. They have those cream feather shafts/more patterning than the blues. You do seem to have 1 normal silver OR a lavender with some other dilution though. Breed him to something else and see if you get a mix of silver and blue like I have in the past.

They are lovely

Excellent! And SO BUSY!

We just did probably the hardest leg which was getting our 2-ton trailer up the mountain. Now we have to repack it and get it ready to drive back down the other side of the mountain. :th

My critters are all good! I had an unexplained rabbit death a while back that wigged me but everyone else has been fine since then. I've been so good and restrained about not breeding anything that I'm dying. I can't wait for Sept/Oct, it's going to be hatch (and baby bunny) madness. I want millions of roux charcoal now.

I love seeing your birds! Is your NPIP testing all done? You have a for sure customer in a month or two! :D
