No rats? :O Wish I could say that.. Lost 2 cots and a cockatiel to rats within the last few months - they chewed their way into the aviary through the wooden door. I'm feeding my chickens half the usual amount to make sure there are no left overs for the rats and this has caused them to steal food in places they usually don't go - they stole 500 grams of rabbit treats a few nights ago - I didn't think those were attractive to the rats since they'd been there for several weeks without being touched, but apparently cutting back on the chicken feed made the rabbit treats attractive.. I really need a proper place to store all of my feed.

I store my feed in a cistern, no rats, mice. Also have quite a few resident owls and hawks that take care of the rodents pretty well. If one of my birds gets out, it's taken care of pretty quick, too! have never loss a bird to rats or mice.

Rats, especially pack rats will haul stuff off, even if they don't eat it.

Anybody want to set eggs tomorrow? I have 20 to set, plus whatever we collect tomorrow. These will be the last set for the year I think unless I figure out a grow out setup for winter.

These are the ones I really want to get rid of right now. Didn't lay a single egg this year...free loaders, wouldn't quit laying last year? Don't have a clue for the reason but I have noticed alot of reproductive problems with melanistic pheasants through the years of raising them, Blue, Black or Green, makes no difference, all have some repro problems.

I have ads on Craigslist, Birds Now, and another member here tells everyone who comes to buy her peachicks I have pheasants for sale. She got her pheasants from me and if she doesn't have any pheasant chicks for sale (she only sells chicks) doesn't have room to keep them as long as I do, she sends them my way.

Hatched: 32
Failed to hatch: 6 (1 actually turned out to be undeveloped, and possible not fertilized. Not sure how I missed that when candling before lockdown.)
Early deaths: 5
Live birds in brooder: 27

I am determined to hit 100. Let's hope I the bus work with me and start laying well today. We had 5 eggs yesterday, which is better than 0. With 20 in out basket right now I need at least 10 more to try to get to 100 for the year.

Yep, they are hens. If the light hits them just right you can see pink, purple and green iridescent feathers, not just the brown and black the camera sees.
