Quail getting into position to break out of the egg
So I’m up to 10 chicks (4 yellers). Still 8 eggs in the incubator. Thinking 2-4 may still hatch.
:wootAwesome!
Come on last eggs....hatch!

:weei’m at 3/3 yellers with more pips and day 18 starting in about an hour!!

Any thoughts on assisting a breech? I helped one last batch and it ended poorly. Is it even worth a try?
:barnie

I say no but I'm not sure I'd say no if it were right in front of me.

Yeah. Logically this makes sense but I’m such a sucker

Do they ever make it out on their own?
I've never witnessed one making it out on it's own but anything is possible.

Pitchfork is the tool you need. Even if you end up with a shovel, a pitchfork works best for to loosen up the mass. I find I can also move much of it with the fork if the ick is a little bit damp. A shovel (if your bedding is like mine) is way more work than anybody ought to do.
Or a digging fork if its real dense. That's what I use for compost turning!

That sounds like a good idea!! I am not sure what the one I have is. I think I got it at TSC. I don’t think it was with the manure forks though. I think it was in the garden section? So maybe it is a compost fork or digging fork? Idk. I will try to get a pic of it sometime lol
