āž” Quail Hatch Along🄚

Thank you. I cannot really see if it pooping or not as it is with the others. I am in Bulgaria (Eastern Europe). I feed them turkey starter with 24% protein. This is the best we have in terms of proteins. I also give them hard boiled egg yolk.
Give them the whole egg, not just the yolk.

The shed is 10x12. In winter there will be 5 ducks, 8 chickens, 4 turkeys and our covey of quail (say 2-4 dozen probably). The shed is not insulated and preferably not heated (I could heat it with an electric heat source). All but the quail would be allowed/encouraged to go outside everyday.

I guess that would be a good amount of body heat... keeping the humidity down may become a problem this winter though with all that exhaling. That means I would increase ventilation, would would leak more heat out. I am confident the chickens, turkeys and ducks will be fine if it gets cold in there. The quail though...
Since the quail cages will be eating up some of the area in there, that is really small to stick that many birds in there including the turkeys. My turkeys have access to the coop during the day but they spend their nights on the roosts outside in all kinds of weather including -30°F.

Seems like it. Even just the tools without the premade panels are crazy lol
That’s true but at least on that site some of the tools were like 4, 5 hundred
Other than the crimpers, the Mex has all the tools that @Texas Kiki would need. While those big expensive brakes would be nice to have, they are not necessary.

Wow man yea thats alota breathing i should have known youve thought this through. Lots of people use battery cages and do well with it. Im sure youve looked into those. Would fit nicely in a garage. With your space problem thats the only way youd be able to meet the demand youve described to me. Maybe itll be like you can keep the demand high without enough supply and youll be able to keep things on a more constant even keel vs the spring boom lots of us face. Feast or famine. Also ull be able to charge more tell the people how theres alot of demand and you can only fill so many orders.

Best option- move to a farm :lau
Farm...:drool

We had a -40F day last year...

Yea ive got other buddies in that neck of the woods and i knew it was a terrible winter. Also that is Alot of Poop. Holy cow.

Turk I love the Tibetan & the pearls! :love

Note that I don't force anybody in or out. The chicken/turkey run is fully enclosed and the pond/run for the ducks is fenced (haven't put netting over it yet). The ducks already spend the night outside every night. The turkeys are a hit and miss. If they want to stay outside when it's -30, I'll let them. The idea is they have access to protection from the elements if they choose to use it.

Funny you should mention that... All the poop is outside where it can be raked and shoveled up or on the board of sand under the roosts where it can be scooped up with a litter scoop. It's really not that bad. Once the ducks start hanging inside more, I might have a problem with their poop...
And all that poop goes into the compost piles (check out my compost article :) )

You've seen mine. Will Mex help you? I can be bribed. :D

You first ones were good. You used scrap lumber and they were cost effective. The rabbit cages were a surprise (as was the incubator). Real easy to build a box.

Hopefully he can!! Or you should. :D

And x2

Yeah it was I think. Not as bad here but still worse than usual for a bit. And yeah so much poop! Lol

And yessss she needs them :lau

Sounds like a great set up. :)

Can you post a picture of it (the quail)? Do you have a scale that you can weigh it on?
6.80 grams. Good idea, I've never weighted a quail :) I will weight the other babies tomorrow to compare. Thank you
Pictures attached.

Can you separate it? Maybe offer it some scrambled or boiled egg mashed up or plain yogurt? Or add some water to the feed and make a mash? See if he will eat that? You can’t force him to eat, true, but you can offer him something more appealing and hope he decides to eat on his own. And I would keep at it with the vitamins. Do you have anything similar to nutridrench there?
Yes, I did add boiled mashed eggs, the others like it, that one - not interested in eating. I will try yoghurt tomorrow, but I've tried before with other quail and they didn't like it. The baby is alive and walking BTW. Just sleeping all the time and not eating. I am not sure about nutridrench, will check tomorrow...Bed time now.
