➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Avoid red gatorade. You may cause yourself undo stress if the bird poops red and you think it's blood. We actually learned this tip from being parents with a sick child. No parent wants to see red or green vomit, so we avoid those colors of gatorade or pedialite when DS (and, in the future, DD-to-be) gets sick.
:lau good advice!

Well, you'll have to hatch at least 7-8 (round to 10) chicks to ensure 3 hens. Assume 60% hatch rate just to be safe. So you better set at least 20 eggs.
:clap:jumpy
I'm selling the ones that just started laying. I like my jumbos, but I think I like my falb fee more. I have the silver roo and the two pretty hens that I got from @CoturnixComplex, so I'm going to breed him in with the falb fee as well as his two existing hens. I think I'll keep one of the falb fee roos too for now unless/until they start to fight. I have four falb fee hens, so that will be six hens.

I have four extra roos. Sounds like a meal or two. :drool

Edit: BTW, you guys are seriously "like" happy! I've been here for just over 3 months, and I already have over 2K likes? That's insane!

I have to say, my favorite part of hatching more quail is the extra roos. What can I say, I love quail with my stomach instead of my heart. :drool:gig

moved the last 3 fluffies to the brooder this morning for a total 31 in the brooder. 33/43 lockdown hatched. going to give remaining eggs a little more time but next batch (homegrowns) due for lockdown wednesday evening for hatch this weekend. that will leave 1 remaining hatch of the myshire 90 due the week of september 8.......:fl:fl
that i stay strong enough to give the incubators a rest and focus on grow-out and getting my birds ready for cooler weather!!

Adorable! I just went through this with a duckling that I assisted, and like yours, mine wouldn't drink or eat either. What I have learned from caring for sick birds is that they *must* have fluids before food, always, no exceptions, and I found it best to give fluids until you see two poops from them, then you can give food. If you're worried about blood sugar levels, give something like Gatorade or Pedialyte.

With my duckling I spent two whole days giving it Gatorade and once it was properly warm and hydrated it started to eat on it's own.

That is awesome!!

Incredible :bow:bow:bow

It looks like I may have an excuse to hatch another batch. I have someone who wants to buy a small flock (1 rooster, 3 hens). It sounds like $5/bird is the going rate, so that's what I'm charging.

Yayyy :D

:lau idk if I’m quite there yet.

He does not necessarily have all of those tools, but he has enough tools of the type that can be used to get the job done.

Ahh okay. That makes sense. Still, didn’t realize that hah i wonder if we do...

6.80 grams. Good idea, I've never weighted a quail :) I will weight the other babies tomorrow to compare. Thank you
Pictures attached.

Yes, I did add boiled mashed eggs, the others like it, that one - not interested in eating. I will try yoghurt tomorrow, but I've tried before with other quail and they didn't like it. The baby is alive and walking BTW. Just sleeping all the time and not eating. I am not sure about nutridrench, will check tomorrow...Bed time now.

It's possible the chick is still absorbing the yolk, and thus not hungry. Keep it hydrated and it should get hungry soon. I don't know if it's separated from the other chicks or not, but my chicks usually learn how to eat by watching the others, so if the other chicks are not picking on it, they should probably be together so they can teach him how to eat once he gets hungry. Sounds like you are being a great quail parent and I hope the chick pulls through.

Do you do Netflix?
There is an episode of that show I mentioned above where they visit a real soy sauce maker place in Japan.
Very neat.
