And they mate the shit out of each other and the females. And the females scream in terror. No one is laying eggs yet...this is dumb
This is normal when you have too many males in with too few females. The males hit their hormones sooner than the females. You really need to split them up now.

I second that. Move most of the makes to a bachelor pad cage if possible and grow them out until butcher weight.
How long can you keep them in a bachelor cage? I just moved the four roos that I'm not keeping into an enclosure that is about 4' x 5' with lots of boxes for hidey holes in it. There are no injuries so far, but it's kind of sad watching a jumbo get chased around by a falb fee half his size.

I’m a newbie to this as well but with my first hatch I started pulling the girls and putting them in with my existing laying flock around 6-7 weeks. There we 12 males and 5 females and the poor things we just getting overwhelmed. So that left the boys in a separate coop until they were 8 weeks old when I butchered. There was a lot of crowing and a lot of mating in the bachelor cage but I never witnessed any real fighting. I lost three birds but couldn’t determine a cause as there were no visible injuries.

Hi im Bird nut 2000 and i would like to join this thread. I have 4 quail about 1 week old. They were hatched from shipped eggs from mixedUPturk. And i have an idea for sexing week olds that can't be feather sexed. 3 of the 4 quail chicks vets are smaller than the other 1 when you look at them. One has a bigger vent. I think the ones with the small vents are the same gender (maybe male) and the one with a bigger vent is the other gender (maybe female).
