Quail getting into position to break out of the egg
Murderess :( :( :(
I might keep the silvery male you brought. He is so tiny and scared of everything. He flies when I chuck mealworms at him. Plus I think he and my sole lavender Manchurian baby (who I have decided is a girl because wishful thinking) would have super cool kids.
I'll revive our text idk what dr quail fancier is doing tomorrow

Welp. Taste of her own medicine. She's lucky someone didn't take offense to her meanness before now and birds that are too stressed to do well in any environment you try them in except alone are just too much work to cater to long term. I was going to have to eat her anyways and I was too attached even after she killed Penguin.

Hi guys! Finally back! Time to sleep for twelve days.

I'm trying to get to all of the notifications and messages I missed but if I accidentally skip you just poke me again.

@el dorado quail congrats on the hatch! You finally have your horde. As soon as I find and charge my phone I'd love to hear about how the other ones went too

@Nabiki I'm so glad baldie healed up well! She's a stunner normally. I'm really glad I didn't have to stress about the petsitter trying to keep an eye on her.

@Maiahr I saw that you had some questions about color genetics, and I'll see what I can wrangle for you. The color calculator is a bit dubious (I had half a mind to make a new one at some point, got deep into the research for it, and had a "hell no, it will not work" moment) and some of the genes you're working with I've gotten conflicting info and results for anyways.

@mixedUPturk @muddy75 and @Texas Kiki I am soooooo glad I don't live closer to you guys. Infinite colors! I'd never stop collecting! Your birds are all looking so great.

My critters all look great :D I think I lost one iffy quail, but out of 20-something birds, 5 rabbits, 3 cats, and a dog, I will take it, that seems excellent to me. My petsitter kicked butt and I am super grateful to @Sara L for being emergency question contact for them.

Welcome back!

Thanks! Ive shipped to Montana twice now she hatched over half the last time.

Welcome back @CoturnixComplex . On that gene thing I guess I am mainly interested in the 'lethal' combination as I have some customers giving me their own eggs and I don't want to be named 'a bad hatcher' if they have the wrong pair.
On a side topic.. I have a male with my two females now and as soon as I brought the male in the cage and they started mating, both girls stopped laying eggs! He mated with one of them the first day and no egg from her, then he moved to the other female and she stopped as well! I think this is just stress for the girls as this is their first mating. Today is day 3, and they have been warned

I just locked down my Myshire assortment eggs.
Lockdown weights are to the left of the starting weights.
(Maybe one day I'll clean up these notes)
For now 24 are making it to lockdown. I only fake candled a handful of them when I took them out of the turner earlier.
I will candle them all again tonight.View attachment 1898602

It's good of you to be on top of it, but also don't stress about it. So few people understand/pay attention to/have access to info about the lethal combinations that everyone who does generally knows they're in the minority. It's real friggin' confusing sometimes!

Silver/blue, certain variations of golden/fawn/beige, and several rare dilutions and albinos are all linked to lethal or mostly lethal combinations, and recessive/english whites seem to have health issues in general as well. I need to do more work on my detailed color info pages/discussion threads.

What is today?
Let me double check the hatch thing but I thought today was the real lockdown day.
