Quail getting into position to break out of the egg
What are the lil plastic rings in this pic?

Very cool! Looks to hold about 20lbs of feed?! Will you plan to cap off the pvc or leave it open?
I don't think it's 20lbs, but it is quite a bit. It's a plastic container that is 9"x15" I think. The PVC is 4" diameter and I cut it to 8" long. Longer would be better, but I need to get it through the 10" tall doorway of the cage. Two PVC tubes means there's a volume of ~3.5 quarts of feed plus the feed that is in the clear container. In total it holds over a gallon of feed. That's a lot better than the 1 quart plastic chick feeders. I intend to leave the PVC open to make it easy to refill and check the level if feed. If it were going outside I would cap them though.

I think that's the part I'm going to have the hardest time with. It may be hard for me to get the skin off too. Once that's done and it looks like meat, I'll have an easier time with it, I think.

I remember the first time I prepared a turkey I had a hard time because it was so obviously a dead bird, but I got used to it. I guess that means I can get used to processing a quail too.
This may sound cold, but I really have no problem processing 20 or quail at once. I wack, chop head and wings, skin, gut, clean in water and set it aside to start on the next. I really just don't like how long it takes, especially if we decide to pluck instead of skin.

hatch update: removed 1 egg....noticed it was crushed....not sure how i missed it:he candled a couple while i was there and saw draw-down and internal pipping! :ya:pop:fl:pop
:ya:woot

What color is this stripey one?

I totally get that. I am NOT looking forward to processing my three amigos (BBWs). They’re so cute the way they’re constantly in display mode and their little heads are so beautiful and soft. They’re huge. I don’t want to cut off their pretty heads. (sigh) On top of that, DH wants me to keep them, so that doesn’t help. Nevertheless when CX processing day comes, the three amigos must go to the freezer, too. :hit:hit:hit

I've named mine Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Supper. The falb fee roo that I have in with my keeper flock is named Snack just in case he and the silver roo start to fight.

Stripey one Looks like probably Italian or golden pansy.....doesn’t look yellow enough to be a pearl. The tux looks either Tibetan or Rosetta (I originally thought scarlet when it first hatched) how does the coloration compare to your fake yeller from last batch?
This stripey is different than any from my last hatch.

I wish more would hurry up and hatch.
