➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

That reminds me the roosters aren't super loud are they?
depends on how many you have and location (proximity to nosy neighbors) we have a well-insulated/sound proof brick home so while my chicken roos were annoying, I don’t find quail crows as irritating, but yes they can be loud when you have several crowing simultaneously outdoors!

@muddy75 thanks for weighing in on the cold situation. You had the same take i did. Im still not sure but its okay ill figure it out.

I did it. View attachment 1906273

Edit: I'm surprised that it only took me about 20 minutes. I had some help. The roommate held them still. I'm not sure I could have held them still enough by myself.

:celebrate:clap good Job!

I had a chicken rooster that was crowing and my close neighbors didn't care. i butchered the rooster anyway because we weren't allowed to have them. but they all said they were ok with it so i imagine quail will be ok i don't think they will even notice them I don't plan on having a whole lot

Good i live in town the main reason i am going to quail is because then i can have roosters and not have to worry to much
the 50/50 rule holds pretty true in quail hatches same as other hatches (as i learned from sex-link hatch) so if you incubate 60 eggs and get 50% hatch rate/survival, you will likely end up with 15 males!! with 15 females, you will most likely only keep 2 males meaning at 6-8 weeks you will be butchering about a dozen +/-. unfortunately with chickens I always ended up with 75% males!!

My chicken hatches are quite different i seem to only hatch a male or two and more females ive hatched probably 60 chickens in the past year and i have ended up hatching 4 males

Edited: I think i may have two males in the brooder now so make that 6 males

that’s amazing!! i’ve only hatched about a dozen or so chickens with the crazy high rate of males.......but i’ve hatched around 250-300 quail. my aviary quail flock is down to around 40 adults currently with about 75 more in brooders and grow-out cage.

Im hoping that i get the same kind of luck with quail. I want to be able to have roosters and breed my own so i can have a sustainable meat source.
