āž” Quail Hatch Along🄚

Parent to offspring breeding is line breeding and is an accepted and preferred method rather than breeding brothers to sisters. The latter method is the quickest way to bring out hidden recessive traits that are bad.

Inbreeding and Linebreeding
I'm actually going to be doing the following method once we are up and running with breeder cages.
I need to bring in more quail though from a different source to have a second group of 1st gen quail. Then I'll cross 1st gen A and 1stGenB to produce 2ndGenA.
Then I'll bring in another source of quail (1stGenC) to cross with 2ndGenA, producing 3rdGenA. At this point I'm able to close the loop and breed with just my stock. I may bring in more outsourced quail if I choose to add different genetic traits, or occassionally to boost genetic diversity, but I should have a enough diversity in the genetic pool for several generations to come. (Since they are outsourced, I could also cross 1stGenC with 1stGenA and 1stGenB to create 2ndGenB and 2ndGenC, which would create more breeding options in the future).
Then I will cross 3rdGenA with 1st gen A and also 1stGenB, producing 4thGenA and 4thGenB.
Then I'll cross 4thGenA with 2ndGenB and 4thGenB with 2ndGenA, producing 5thGenA and 5thGenB.
Then I repeat grandchild A to grandparent B and grandchild B to grandparent A.
