āž” Quail Hatch Along🄚

Quail getting into position to break out of the egg
18 in brooder from this morning
5 in incubator drying off
23 babies.
That leaves 8 that should be hatching - a couple have pips.

Of those 8,
2 that are 1 day behind
2 that are 2 days behind
Staggered hatching, don't ya know.

I'm afraid Set3 isn't fertile. No foam, no crowing. 2 hens are laying. This will put a damper on meat hatch.

@Pyxis How are your eggs?

@RUNuts Babies?

I trashed 4 clears.
(3 buttons and 1 HG)

I have 4 good buttons eggs on day ??? I don't even know.

They are in lockdown :) I pulled a couple that were quitters. I have nine of the shipped eggs in there (one is the smallest one that I still can't really tell if it's doing anything or not) and then also the one egg I set from my own pair.

Now you are ready to set eggs again. woot.

Zach just mentioned that eggs are selling like hot cakes right now.
Did you see the live?
I've had two inquiries for hatching eggs this week as well. I think people are looking to be more independent due to the shelter in place orders that so many of us are dealing with. One of the people might just want to order 60 chicks from me. I told him to give me a month's notice and that he'd need to give me a deposit, but I'd be happy to do a special order for him.

Zach mentioned that his Jumbo Wilds were pushing 12 ounces now. Mine are holding in the 10-11 ounces range. This is interesting.

He also said if a hen is laying smallish eggs, to keep her out of the breeding pen. I've 2 hens laying, one a larger egg than the other and one not laying in Set1. Following this, I'll only hatch from the one hen. Puts us in the shallow end of the gene pool.

The simple thing is to not worry about breeding and let Zach handle it. :p

Zach's rules work for him.
I'm not too good about following rules. :cool:

And that is why we are rooting for you! Go Kiki, go!

How is the horse chick? Friends yet? --oops wrong thread. :p
He's good.
He's ready to live outside.

Last year our Runnings ordered a bunch of chicks and couldn't move them. It was the "spring" of the never-ending winter. So the lady who does the ordering told me they were gonna play it safe this year. I don't know whether they're regretting their decision because I am marooned here in the middle of nowhere. :lau
