I practiced subtraction on 12 boys this afternoon. I'm down to less than 10 minutes per bird and I still think I move kind of slow. I plucked 2 to see how those cook up with skin on.

I’ve only attempted plucking on one bird and quickly gave up. I didn’t try scalding though so maybe that makes a difference? I’m considering just breasting out the cleaned birds the next round and making stock with the rest. I feel like I never get much meat off the legs and thighs.

Supposedly it does!! The feathers fall right off.

It wasn't that bad. I didn't scald them and the feathers came off pretty easily.

I think both these new babies have something going on colorwise. The one I thought at first was pharoah is clearly not, now that it's all fluffed. I can't tell if it's just slightly darker but the same as the other, or something else different.

Still waiting for an external pip. Definitely internally pipped because I can see it's little beak. I can't believe I'll have quail soon!

Little double-butt isn't doing well. I'm not surprised, but I had a bit of hope for a while since it was so perky the first couple of days. I'll probably cull it this afternoon.

The picture you showed looked like it's belly button wasn't fully formed. Not 2 vents, but a not fully closed belly button, maybe?

I culled one the last hatch that was worse than this one.

I'm really not sure. If the lower one is the belly button, then the vent is on its back. I'm pretty sure that the one on it's back is the vent since it seems to be where its poop is coming from. It's sleeping a lot, but it perked up again when I gave it some water from a dropper.

Hope it gets better. Such a cute little thing too.
