➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I forgot to post my new babies. Lol. This one hatched yesterday, had unabsorbed yolk so it’s still hanging out in the incubator. Second to last to hatch so I just stuck some food and water in there and turned the temp down to 35. Seems to be doing ok. :)

Is this from inbreeding lines? I know dog genetics and this is what we see happen. I imagine it's hard to keep so many separate genetic lines while also trying to breed for colour.

I haven't found an easy to understand site for the cornutix colours yet. Pharoah vs Egyptian vs brown vs plain. It seems the photos for those look similar to me. My dog lines have only four colour combinations so my head is spinning with all the terms for colours for quail.

I’m at a loss how to treat some of the leg deformities. I’m not sure what causes it. I would say some fault goes to shipping, some to incubation, and some to genetics. Normally from homegrowns I have the usual minor issues, like 1 with curled toes or one with splay. I had one with one leg shorter than the other and curled toes. But some of the legs and toes are just so messed up I don’t know where to start. So I’m just starting from the top, try to get the hip oriented properly, then the hock, then foot, then toes. It’s actually really taking a lot out of me having this many in sick bay so to speak.

My snowies from Myshire just hatched, and I got 39 out of 60 eggs, but less than half are actually snowie, lots of falb fee. It doesn’t say on the description page that they don’t hatch true. Once all the chicks are dry and in the incubator I’ll get an official count, it’s hard without taking them out one by one because there’s too many. If I don’t have 20 snowies, I’m going to email them. I’ve got a few with deformities I’ve never seen, and one perfectly formed and seemingly healthy, but crazy small.
Go to Myshire Farm and look on their playlist. They explain there what all you might get when you hatch a batch of eggs under that color. Zack is good at explaining things.

One thing you can do, when putting in lock down, place one of those air shelf liners on the bottom. A lot of the leg problems is because the floor is too slippery.

I have seen a few videos a where people spray their birds with vinegar and water mix when they introduce them and they don’t fight. Anyone know if that’s true? Also is it better to keep two males from the same hatch and get rid of my older male or can I keep my older male and one of my new roosters in same cage. There will be 15 hens and two males in a 3x8 cage

Pharoah is plain wildtype. Egyptian is pharoah plus the recessive sex-linked roux gene; the gene turns them reddish. Brown I'm assuming is referring to the extended brown gene. That gene is incompletely dominant, and is responsible for the Rosetta and Tibetan colors, which are one and two copies of the gene, respectively.

I've got all of those colors. I can take a picture comparing them all, if you want :)
