➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Sooo, I have 12 eggs incubating at day 14 and I discovered that the power went out for some reason in the bedroom. :-( I don’t think it was for much more than an hour and temps dropped to about 84…will they be okay?? UGH!
Zero problems.

We just put our first handful of eggs in the incubator. :) Only 6, since we only want about 10 total (currently have 2 after 5 of our original 7 turned out to be male and we lost one female), and I'm not expecting great hatch rates since about half the eggs were refrigerated for a couple days.

Still though, exciting! My hope is that if they do hatch, that some were fathered by the males we had to dispatch before we realized they were males. We had one really beautiful tuxedo who was just too obnoxious to keep alone with the only female until we get our numbers up.

What a great hatch, all but one within 48 hours of each other! First one was out 6pm Friday, by 9am Saturday 24 were already out and #25 was zipped! The incubator was all fogged up but I didn't bump up the humidity at all, I ran it at 40% all through the hatch.

46 total hatched. I culled two, one that wrapped its umbilical around its leg and pulled out some intestine, and another that could not flip off its back. Two I popped into shot glasses for a few hours to strengthen splay legs, but no taping toes or legs, yay!

Okay ladies, remind me again how long to give a chick to hatch before helping?? This baby is doing his best but he’s popping out about half way down the egg so he’s struggling a bit. He’s been at it for about an hour…clearly not yet, but how long would you wait?
